Karen Mills may have finished school at 15, but her subsequent life experience is one of not only appreciating the value of education but also putting this into practice.
She has continued to educate herself throughout her adult life and she is currently two years into a four-year Advanced Diploma of Accounting, having already completed a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping).
Karen, who lives in Erina on the NSW Central Coast, is a bookkeeper for a local business and she is continuing her studies to further improve the work that she does. She has some very definite advice to offer Cengage Education students.
“I believe there are three qualities you must have to succeed in your studies: maturity, which I didn’t have when I was young, responsibility to finish what you start and a commitment to achieve the goal that drove you to start the course in the first place.”
Karen’s trainer, Damian Bridge, observes that Karen is distinguished through her perseverance.
“You will find with some people that if they fail to understand a particular problem they will give up. Karen never gives up and subsequently she has done extremely well in her assignments.”
Of course, as a Cengage Education student you are never alone – there is ongoing assistance through our Student Support team and trainers, and the support of fellow students through the very popular student portal, OpenSpace.

Hi Karen i am currently studying Accounting cert 4 certificate and i know what u mean when u say never give up, i have noticed the more dedicated u are to solving the problem that exists the better the result in your assignments! Happy studying and loved your article.
Thanks for the testimonial Karen. I was an overseas student at Cengage but didn’t complete my Diploma of Accounting. It was a sad day for me when I decided to quit when I got two more modules to complete it and graduate. I’ve paid my fee in full but it was tutors feedback that I couldn’t understand. I found out that Damian wasn’t helpful to me at all and despite my desire to do it to the end but a change of tutor might have help me through but that didn’t eventuate as Cengage wouldn’t let me.
Good news! Our Student Support team is making arrangements for you to continue your studies with a different trainer. We want you to get the most from your learning experience and our team is always on hand to help our students with any issues they may have so please don’t hesitate to contact us on 1300 650 011.
